Mushrooms, Moss & the Moon

Grants Pass, Oregon

Shots of mushrooms, moss, lichen...and an experiment with the moon!

Mushrooms

Mushrooms sprout during the cooler, wetter months...

Back and front!

I thought these were cool-looking mushrooms....

...until I discovered they're oak galls!

Moss

Moss grows everywhere. On paths and roads...

...and wood of all kinds!

Moss close-ups:

Lichen

Lichen, which is a combination of algae and moss, grows everywhere. There are lots of colorful examples:

Experiment with the Moon

One warm night last summer, Margarita woke me up to go outside. A beautiful full moon was drifting through the clouds.

I wanted to take some pictures with my camera's night setting, but didn't have a tripod (necessary because of the longer exposure time). I tried holding the camera in my hands, but the pictures came out all wobbly.

I decided to make use of the wobbliness by deliberately moving the camera around while the shutter was open. The moon became a light source for drawing!

Here are the results:

Spiral

Zigzag

Pretzel

Coil

Crown

Moon Writing

Letter "e"

Ancient script?

I spelled "moon"!

May your nights and days be filled with wonder!
