Greetings from Glorieta!

January 2008

Glorieta, New Mexico

I have promised you photos of our new home in Glorieta -- here they are, at last!

In June 2007, my mother, Betsy Hunt, and I moved to New Mexico to assist our friend Patricia Jepsen. Patricia is the founder of a spiritual school, the University of Melchizedek, and an online school for children and youth, The Sanctuary School, both based in Glorieta. We brought with us our extended family: a Great Dane mix and four cats, otherwise known as Margarita, Alex, Jasper, Misty and Sheba!

Glorieta, at an elevation of 7500 feet, is in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo mountains, 20 miles southeast of Santa Fe. While Santa Fe and environs is mostly high mountain desert, Glorieta is a forested terrain of Scrub Oak, Cedar, Pinon and Ponderosa Pine, with a few Prickly Pear cactus thrown in! The highs are in the 70's and 80's in the summer, in the 20's-40's in the winter, and we get our fair share of snow, usually around 2-6 inches at a time. Last year they had 4 FEET of snow in one fell swoop, but that is unusual. It is definitely a lot cooler here than in Tucson!

Glorieta is also home to the Glorieta Conference Center, a nationally-renowned conference and retreat center run by the Southern Baptist Church. It's a beautiful complex, with hotel rooms, cafeterias and many acres of scenic parks and hiking trails. The hotel rooms are open to the public, and it is a wonderful place to come for rest, relaxation and renewal of the spirit.

Our Home

When we arrived, the wildflowers were in bloom....

...and sunflowers were everywhere!

(Thanks to Steve Carpenter for his sunflower pictures.)

The countryside is beautiful...

...and the post office, rustic! (It's a former train depot.)

Our animal friends love the new place. Sheba explores all the high places:

Margarita enjoys the grass and watching the chipmunks:

And Alex, Misty and Jasper enjoy lounging! (Can you spot Jasper in the second photo?)

In December, it snowed!

Margarita loves the snow...

That's all for now, see you again soon!
