Foggy Day

December 2011

Grants Pass, Oregon

December brought lots of fog to Grants Pass. The fog is a result of an "inversion," when cool, moist, valley air gets trapped below a layer of warmer air. The cool air turns to fog, which creates special effects when it freezes!

Have You Ever Seen the Fog?

I went out in the early morning light to take some pictures in the fog. I forgot to turn off the flash. Here is what happened:

Those are FROZEN FOG PARTICLES reflected back by the flash! This was pretty cool, so I took some more shots:

How it looked without the flash:

Taken later that night:

Christmas Lights

Fir Tree

Against a blue background

Against the sidewalk

Outer space!

Frozen Fog

When the fog freezes, it covers the plants with tiny spikes. It's pretty cool!

It even frosted the spider webs!

Hope you enjoyed our fog shots!
