Grants Pass, Oregon

This page features shots of downtown Grants Pass, along with photos taken from a hike at the end of B Street (Dollar Mountain Trail).

It's the Climate...

The "It's the Climate" sign is a Grant Pass landmark. It stretches over 6th Street, the main road leading to the river. With a population of just over 33,000, Grants Pass is well-known for its mild climate: warm summers, mild winters, colorful springs and autumns. The town is ringed by mountains, which protect it from extreme weather patterns. A lot of people come here for recreation and to live.

Downtown boasts a lot of historical buildings, many of which are preserved as landmarks:

The Rogue Theater is a classic example:

Public murals abound: old...

And new!

No matter where you go in Grants Pass, you will always see a Dutch Brothers coffee stand. The business was founded here!

B Street Hike

B Street runs east-west through town. At its western end is a trail which leads up to Dollar Mountain, a ridge overlooking town. It is hard to believe that you are only 5 minutes from downtown up there!

The trail winds through groves of manzanita, madrone and other deciduous trees:

The bark of manzanitas and madrones peels off in curlicues:

The bare trunk of a madrone is a sight to behold:

Manzanita trunks are a deep red. They contrast nicely with the pale green lichen:

More trunks and lichen:
