Northern California Coast

We spent an afternoon in Crescent City, California, just over the border from Oregon. Here are some photos!

Shaped Like a Crescent...

The harbor is shaped like a crescent, hence the name. Crescent Beach, pictured below, is crescent-shaped, too!

The coastal mountains make for beautiful views:

And so does the beach!

Sea lions lounged on a nearby pier:

Others sunned on a floating dock...shared with cormorants!

Battery Point Lighthouse

Off the northern tip of the harbor is Battery Point Lighthouse. It is open to the public, but only at low tide, when you can get across the rocks. We arrived at low tide, so were able to see it (outside only).

View from the grounds:

There was a "buoy tree" and a captain's totem!

A little history:

The Jetty

Near the lighthouse was a jetty. We were warned not to walk out on it because of the danger of high surf. You can see why!

Overlooking the harbor:

Rock on!

Good-bye, Crescent City!
